An Osoyoos man has been arrested and charged for allegedly possessing child pornography after a multi-agency investigation including the Ontario Provincial Police led to the search of a local motel room.

Shawn Barry Titus, 37, is facing charges for possession of child pornography and for failing to comply with a prohibition order. He has been remanded and will appear in court again on June 4, according to RCMP.

Titus was convicted of sexual assault in 2018 for which he received two years jail time, having served 44 days in custody prior to his sentence.

The Osoyoos RCMP Detachment, OPP and the BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (BC ICE) were involved in the investigation leading to the arrest.

On May 19, the Osoyoos RCMP entered into an investigation after receiving information from BC ICE and the OPP that an internet account from Osoyoos was accessing child pornography.

Osoyoos RCMP officers worked over the next couple of days to identify the account user and on May 21 executed a search warrant of a local motel where the man was residing.

“Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence and to date have made no link to any local victims,” Sgt. Jason Bayda with the Osoyoos RCMP.

The team work of the agencies mentioned shows the dedication of police to protecting children from harm and to vigorously pursue those who access, distribute, or create child pornography, Bayda said.
