The provincial government announced 34 new test positive cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday.
Four new deaths were reported in the province, all four were seniors connected to ongoing outbreaks at long-term care facilities, said Dr. Bonnie Henry, Provincial Health Officer.
The province provided more details about the second death related to COVID-19 in the Interior Health region, where there were 169 cases reported in the daily update Wednesday.
Henry said the man was in his 70s and had been in hospital for some time, and he had acquired his COVID-19 while travelling outside of Canada.
On April 29, there were 169 in positive tests for COVID-19 in the Interior Health region, 811 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 941 in Fraser Health, 120 on Vancouver Island, and 46 people in Northern Health region.
There are 24 active outbreaks long-term care, acute care or assisted living facilities, with 252 residents and 152 staff affected province-wide. Thirteen outbreaks are now declared over, including the Kootenay Street Village in Cranbrook with no new cases in the last two incubation periods.
Investigations are ongoing at Superior Poultry in Coquitlam, where 50 cases have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Wednesday and United Poultry in Metro Vancouver with 42 test-positive cases.
There is no change in the number of positive tests at the Mission federal correctional centre, with 120 cases: 108 inmates and 12 staff.
There are 89 people in B.C. who are hospitalized with 35 in critical care and intensive care.
