An Oliver RCMP officer was instrumental in apprehending an alleged car thief in Okanagan Falls on April 1.
Police nabbed a man following a short pursuit after the local cop spotted a vehicle that police were looking for on March 31 when officers noticed it in Oliver.
“Officers were unable to stop the vehicle at the time as it was unsafe to do so,” said Cst. James Grandy.
After the Oliver cop reported seeing the vehicle in an alleyway, several plainclothes officers from Penticton arrived and positioned themselves strategically to prevent risk to the public.
At 9.a.m. a man was observed starting the vehicle and driving away. But officers eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspect without risk to the public.
Seamus Kirby, 28, from Penticton has been formally charged with possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.
“While our community is in the midst of a public health crisis, our officers are out working tirelessly, continuing our mission of making our streets safe,” Grandy said.
