School Board Chair

We have just begun week two of what has been an extraordinary start to our new reality.

I would like to commend all staff members including the senior management team, school administrators, teachers, support staff, custodians and maintenance crews for supporting the safety of students and staff and redesigning everything they normally do in a matter of days.

We are hearing inspirational stories of support for students and families, risk taking and innovation. Last week represented a fundamental change in how education is delivered, and our schools have responded. Schools are meeting online, they are collaborating in a virtual world, and they are trying new tools and approaches.

For our families and community members, we hope you are staying safe and are feeling supported. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or school principal if you require any support or clarification.

In week one, parents and students have probably heard from their schools and teachers. While they are still planning for remote learning opportunities, teachers and support staff members are checking in with students and families on their plans and how students are managing.

If parents or families have any questions about the education of their child, please contact your child’s principal. We also encourage families to check the district website regularly for all up-to-date information, frequently asked questions, and resources. The district team is working on a help desk for students and families which should be up and running very soon.

As trustees, we wish to do our part to support staying at home and physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, all regular board meetings will be conducted on a Zoom platform until further notice. Please e-mail [email protected] if you would like a meeting link emailed to you. Agendas will be posted as usual on the district website.

As we move to week two and beyond, parents and students will be seeing more information coming from teachers and schools. Our staff is feeling this new reality as well.

We thank you for your patience. We are in this together. In the wise words of Dr. Bonnie Henry, on behalf of the board: Be calm, be kind, and be safe!
