RCMP say speed and alcohol are being considered as factors in a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 3 near Macguire Road that sent two people to hospital, and put one person in custody.
A 32-year-old man allegedly fled the scene of the Sept. 27 rollover, RCMP said, and was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Penticton.
“The investigation on the collision is continuing. Alcohol and speed are both being considered as a factor,” said Sgt. Jason Bayda, in an RCMP press release.
A female passenger was critically injured and had to be extracted by the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department and airlifted to hospital. A male passenger in the Chevy Nova’s rear had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.
The driver was seen fleeing the area of the rollover on foot, RCMP said, and a search ensued. The driver was found “three hours later, after he emerged from the thick brush,” Bayda said.
