Your feature article (January 24) on Donna Wager and her husband Mike was touching.
It is an example of true and unselfish love between individuals. Donna’s light hearted dialogue on how she and Mike deal with the reality of dementia should be viewed as a message of the necessity of providing realistic and loving support.
By not falling victim to self-pity and recrimination, and most importantly the willingness to openly discuss her condition and confirm the benefits of a strong partnership, Donna has opened a door for many who are afraid to reveal a physical and/or mental condition for fear of being rejected by those around them.
You are a courageous woman Donna. Mike is your ‘cornerstone’ and I hope you both continue to enjoy the benefits of being close.
