The Town of Oliver has awarded the Station Street reconstruction tender to Grizzly Excavating Ltd. for nearly $1.2 million.
The contract involves reconstructing Station Street from Fairview Road to Bank Avenue.
A total of four tenders were received, with Grizzly being the lowest bidder at $1,197,489.83.
The reconstruction project will see new sidewalks and boulevard trees on either side of Station Street. The upgrades will complement the new Coast Hotel being built on the former Centennial RV Park site.
The Grizzly tender is approximately $60,000 over budget partly due to storm drain work (an increase in the size of the mains). But it was noted there is a $50,000 built-in contingency fund.
In addition to this particular contract, another phase of the Station Street project will involve reconstruction from Bank to Veterans Avenue, and fixing/upgrading the access road behind the legion (leading to Highway 97), and upgrading the parking lot at the Oliver Visitor Centre.
