It really is a sad state of events that people need assistance from the Food Bank in this age of plenty. However, it is a fact that many people just cannot afford the high cost of housing plus enough to eat. This is when they turn to the Food Bank.

Around Christmas most of us think about the needy and are happy to donate cash and groceries to this very necessary service but then we put it out of our mind. However, the good folks who operate the facility know that they need contributions the whole year through.

To help out a little, the members of the Order of the Eastern Star are holding a soup and bunwich lunch at the Oliver Elks Hall on Friday, January 19 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  They will be serving five kinds of soup, freshly made buns with various fillings and a hot dessert — all you can eat for $8.00.

There will also be a bake table, raffle and fifty/fifty draw.

Half of all profits will be donated to the Oliver Food Bank to assist their wonderful service.  Please come out for a tasty lunch and help those in need.

To honour those who risk their lives for us, any first responder wearing uniform will only pay half price for their lunch.
