It’s beginning to look a lot like winter, and with snow and colder weather forecasted, the Town of Osoyoos is reminding residents to be mindful when flurries arrive.

People are asked to ensure snow removal equipment has clear access along their streets, and, when snow is forecasted, to refrain from parking on roads until streets have been cleared.

According to an amendment to the Town’s Traffic Bylaw, adopted in 2016, the Operational Services department is permitted to tow vehicles impeding snow removal.

The bylaw states that snow or ice removal equipment needs 12 feet of clearance between stopped or parked vehicles.

Vehicles in contravention of the bylaw can be towed and impounded, and the owner can be charged a removal fee including the cost of towing, impound fee and a 10 per cent administration fee.

The Town’s Good Neighbour Bylaw also requires that residential property owners remove all snow or ice from all sidewalks bordering the property within 24 hours of the snowfall, and that commercial property owners do the same by no later than 10 a.m. each day.

No one is allowed to deposit any removed snow or ice onto town property or highways, and doing so can result in a $500 fine.
