Police are still investigating what caused a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a South Okanagan man on Monday, Nov. 19.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Highway 3 at Nighthawk Road, west of Osoyoos.
Police report that a westbound Ford F350 pickup truck with a lone occupant crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an eastbound Acura, driven by a lone occupant.
The driver of the Acura, a man in his 50s from the South Okanagan, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov.
“I cannot release the name of the person or specifically where he was from,” the officer said when questioned if the driver was from Oliver.
Halskov said the driver of the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
“Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing cause of this crash,” said Halskov, adding that road conditions at the time were bare and dry with light traffic.
South Okanagan Traffic Services (SOTS) is conducting the investigation with assistance from the BC Coroners Service and South East District Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service.
Police are seeking witnesses to this collision; anyone with information is asked to call SOTS at 250-499-2250.
