Seven Osoyoos teams participated when the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Big Bike Ride came to Osoyoos on May 9. We follow four remarkable women at this event: Jennifer Herd, who got the wheels rolling when she was working at Sunshine Ridge Retirement Home; Gertrude Machan, a 99-year-old Sunshine Ridge resident who rode the bike; Jill Palmer, who captained the Desert Spirit Dragon Boat team, which with the United Church Thrift Shop, raised the most funds of any team; and Wendy Wright, the energetic and enthusiastic community development coordinator with the Heart and Stroke Foundation for the region.
