The residents of Mariposa Gardens Care Community are joining in the fight against Alzheimer’s and they’re hoping the community will help.
Residents are raising funds and participating in the Investors Group Walk for Alzheimer’s fund raiser by hosting their own “Walk in a Box” at Pioneer Park.
The walk takes place Tuesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Pioneer Walkway.
For resident Marlyn Daniels, the walk is a way to support people she lives with.
“I see residents all around me at different stages of this disease,” she said. “It is so sad; I want to do something to help them.”
Allison Balloch who also lives at Mariposa, said the walk is a way to spread awareness of Alzheimer’s.
“It is a terrible disease and so hard to watch people’s disease progress. I might be there some day – who knows.”
Over 1.1 million Canadians are affected by dementia and one way of supporting them is by sponsoring Mariposa Gardens Care Community residents with The Alzheimer’s “Walk in a Box” event.
Funds raised will benefit the Alzheimer Society of B.C. and contribute to vital programs and services in the community.
Anyone interested in donating can visit the main reception desk at Mariposa Gardens (8816 97 St.) between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday, or call Jannine Rennie at 250-495-8124 extension #109.
