Multiple capital projects for the Town of Oliver have been added to the 2026 Capital Budget after being funded in full through external resources.
One project will see the addition of four speed reader boards to be installed at designated roadside locations, while the other project covers procurement of equipment necessary to activate a second structure protection unit for the Oliver Volunteer Fire Department. The two profiles have a combined cost of $63,500.
Speed reader boards are intended to be traffic-calming measures, displaying for a driver what their current speed is. The four being acquired will be installed along Tuc el Nuit Drive, Meadows Drive, Lakeside Drive, and next to Fairview School. Funding for this project is entirely covered via the ICBC.
And for wildfire protection funding for an additional structure protection unit, covered through a 2025 FireSmart grant is to be acquired. Structure protection units primarily assist with efforts to combat wildfires, as they prevent burning embers from igniting other structures. Currently the Oliver Fire Department has one unit.
The two profiles required formal Council approval to be included in the 2026 Capital Budget, which was granted.
