Have you ever wondered what it’s like to cruise around the lake powered only by wind? Now’s the time to find out as the Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club holds its annual “Sail into Summer Festival” open house this weekend.

From 12 – 3 p.m. a variety of activities for both children and adults will take place including food and displays.

Membership in the club, which has been in operation since 1963, is $250 (one time initiation fee), a yearly membership of $175 and members are required to put in 12 hours of volunteer time each year.

The membership provides access to club boats (suitable for all skill levels), use of the clubhouse (which is the old Osoyoos rail station which was moved to its present location from the original spot where Watermark Beach Resort is now located) use of the beach, dock, launching pad and rescue boat when needed. It also includes the use of the patio and BBQ.

The club also offers, for an additional fee, beach dockage for sailboats, covered shed for dinghies, outdoor storage for canoes, kayaks and boards, and indoor storage lockers.
