The Osoyoos Desert Centre (ODC) is providing a unique opportunity to view an inspiring epic film shot in 1957, offering a priceless window on the world once wild and unscarred, followed by a discussion and Q&A by the film’s wildlife artist, biologist and the film’s director.

The ODC is presenting another of its ever-popular Movie and an Expert series this weekend with the screening of “The Art of Adventure”. The film will be followed by a discussion and Q&A via Zoom with the film’s director Alison Reid, world-renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman and biologist Bristol Foster.

The Art of Adventure is an inspiring and deeply human documentary about the extraordinary lifelong friendship between Bateman and Foster. Through their epic 1957 journey around the world, armed with a 16mm camera and an artist’s brush, the film “opens a vivid window onto a planet once wild and unscarred, and a bond formed by curiosity, courage and a love of nature.”

The ODC went on to say that the Q&A offers audiences the opportunity to delve deeper into the film’s themes of exploration, environmental responsibility and the intersection of art and science.

“This film is more than an adventure story. It’s a reflection on how curiosity and creativity can inspire a lifelong commitment to protecting our planet,” says Jayme Friedt, ODC Executive Director. “We’re excited to bring this meaningful conversation to our community.”
