Kathleen (Kathie) Mary Westphal
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kathie) Mary Westphal, who died peacefully at home on January 21, 2026, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer.
Born October 21, 1941 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Kathie trained as a nurse before moving to Prince George, BC. It was there that she met her first husband, Sonny Davis, a railway worker and firefighter. They moved to Squamish in 1969, where they raised sons Larry and Glenn until his sudden passing in 1992. During those years, Kathie worked part-time in nursing and became deeply involved in community service.
She later found love again with Ernst Westphal, a long-time friend from Prince George, and they married in 1994. They settled in Osoyoos, where Kathie continued her lifelong dedication to volunteering and caring for others, including volunteer work at the Osoyoos Desert Centre, the United Church Thrift Shop, the Mariposa Care Community, and various other community efforts.
Kathie and Ernst filled their 31 years together with travel, volunteer work, and time with family. She was known for her kindness, compassion, warmth, and devotion to others.
She is survived by her husband Ernst, her sons Larry (Debbie) and Glenn (Sheila), and her three beloved grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. de Vries and the Palliative Care team of Interior Health for their care and support. A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honour Kathie’s memory with a random act of kindness.
