A wildfire first discovered on August 31 burning in E.C. Manning Park at approximately 2 km from Hwy. 3 does not pose a threat to the highway at this time, the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has said in its update on Sept. 5.
The Turnbull Creek wildfire, estimated at 750 ha is burning northeast of Hwy. 3 on the southern slopes of Snass Mountain and is growing in a direction away from the highway, mostly to the northeast and west, the BCWS said.

The fire is receiving a “modified response,” which the BCWS says “focuses on minimizing damage to values while maximizing ecological benefits from the fire. The fire is suspected to have been caused by lightning.
“Response efforts will focus on protecting infrastructure and other values rather than attempting to contain and extinguish the fire completely. As a result, the fire will continue to be active and visible until weather conditions change,” it added.
