
Deolinda Moreira Chaves
April 15, 1946 – April 2, 2025
Deolinda Moreira Chaves passed away peacefully in Osoyoos on April 2, 2025, just 13 days short of her 79th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio M Chaves, her brother, Antonio Moura, her brother-in-law, Victorina Moreira, and her parents Jose Augusto and Maria Moura.
Deolinda is survived by her sister, Maria Moreira, her niece Nelia (Roger) Moreira, various cousins, and brother and sisters-in- law with nieces and nephews from the late Antonio Chaves’ side.
Born on April 15, 1946 on the Island of Santa Maria, Azores, Deolinda came to Canada with her parents in November of1965, at the age of 19. She went to work in the orchards with her family, until going to work at the Co-op Packing house, until her retirement close to 40 years later. While at the packing house, she made many friends, and enjoyed dinners out with the crew. She married Antonio Chaves in 1977, and moved to the farm, where she remained since, coming home from work at the packing house, she worked on the farm, enjoyed their pets, her green, manicured lawn, and flowers at the door of the farm house.
The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate staff at South Okanagan General Hospital, Mariposa, and Dr Calder for their kindness and care during this time.
Viewing will be available at 10:15 am, prayers at 10:30 am on Friday April 11, 2025 followed by the funeral mass starting at 11:00 a.m. at St Anne Catholic Church in Osoyoos. Interment and committal will follow at Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved late husband. A reception in the church lower hall will follow the committal.
