December 27, 1947 – October 10, 2024

Gilberta Pimentel passed away peacefully at McKinney Place in Oliver, B.C. on October 10, 2024. Gilberta was predeceased by her parents: Jose Sousa Pimentel (1979), Ines Cruz Pimentel (1989) and her sister Conceição (Connie) Pimentel (2017). She is survived by her siblings: Adelaide Pimentel, Madalena Trovao (Jose), Teresa Farinha (Jose), Luis Pimentel, Olga Woodland (David Vass); her nieces: Margie and Susan Trovao, Lisa Farinha (Chris Parker), Jennifer and Jessica Farinha, Amanda Woodland; her great-nephews and great-niece: Joel, Adam, and Emma Parker; as well as numerous extended family members in Canada, Portugal, and the United States.

Gilberta was born in Furnas, São Miguel, Açores on December 27, 1947. She immigrated to Canada with her family in January of 1966, settling in Osoyoos, BC. She was employed at the Monashee Co-Op for over thirty years until her retirement in the mid-2000s.

Gilberta loved crocheting, gardening, taking photos and listening to music. She was an active member of Saint Anne Catholic Church, the Portuguese Canadian Cultural Society, and she loved volunteering for the Holy Spirit Festival.

She was very caring, helpful and generous with her time and will be loved and remembered always by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. DeVries and all the nurses and staff at Oliver General Hospital, as well as the hard-working staff at McKinney Place who looked after her during the last few months of her life.

Prayers will be recited at 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Anne Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Friday October 25, 2025 at St. Anne Catholic Church. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery followed by a reception in the church lower hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilberta’s memory to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Canada.
