The Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB) has announced the hiring of a new Band Manager, who will commence her new duties during the beginning of next month.

The Chief, Council and staff welcomed the successful candidate, Donna Wilchynski to her new role as LSIB Band Manager which will begin from March 3.

The band noted that Wilchynski is no stranger to the sqilxw (people) of the c̓up̓ áq̓ , (Chopaka) smǝlqmíx Territories, having been serving as LSIB’s Department-Lead for Public Works, Housing, & Capital Projects, for the last year. She also spent many of her formative childhood years growing up in nixwínaʔ (Keremeos) and area, the band said.

“Working with the sməlqmíx, the Staff, and the Chief and Council of LSIB, has been one of the top highlights of my entire career. I’m excited to be able to continue with LSIB in this new role, and to continue enjoying the workplace, the lands, and the people.” says Wilchynski.

y̓ ilmixwm kalʔlupaq̓ n (Chief Keith Crow) expressed his excitement around Wilchynski becoming the Band Manager at LSIB. The y̓ ilmixwm added, “Since Donna will be transferring from another department, there will be a transition period where we will be posting to fill her current role as Department Lead.

“I wish to thank LSIB personnel for all of the hard work. I am truly honoured to work with such great staff. I am looking forward to Donna being the leader of our Administration team, and looking forward to the future of LSIB.”

The competition to fill Wilchynski’s previous role will start very soon in the coming weeks, the band added.
