The Oliver Kiwanis and Aktion Clubs have contributed $1,000 and $200 respectively towards South Okanagan Similkameen (SOS) Medical Foundation’s SOS Medical Foundation’s $10 Million Oncology Campaign.
Ruth Herrington, President of Oliver Kiwanis Club made a special trip to Penticton to hand-deliver several donations from South Okanagan donors, including the two Kiwanis clubs due to the ongoing postal strike.
SOS Medical Foundation highlighted that the contributions from the Oliver Kiwanis Club and Oliver Aktion Club, showcased their “unwavering commitment” to the Oncology Campaign.

Understanding that cancer impacts one in two people during their lifetime, the two clubs felt compelled to continue their support, they said. Their donations coincided with the Foundation’s Giving Tuesday initiative, where contributions were matched, amplifying their generosity.
Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation, addressed a common misconception around fundraising initiatives for the Penticton Regional Hospital, such as the new Oncology Clinic:
“There’s often a misunderstanding that the Foundation exclusively supports the Penticton area. In reality, we serve 16 healthcare facilities across the South Okanagan Similkameen region. Loyal supporters like the Oliver Kiwanis group play a vital role in ensuring we can provide enhanced care for everyone in our region.”
Lindsay noted that the new Oncology Clinic, set to open in 2025, will benefit patients throughout the South Okanagan Similkameen.
“The SOS Medical Foundation sincerely thanks the Oliver Kiwanis and Aktion Clubs, along with all our South Okanagan Similkameen donors, for their unwavering generosity and commitment to enhancing healthcare in our region.”
Kiwanis groups have been servicing communities throughout the world since 1915 with the Oliver membership having donated over $257,000 in support of healthcare since 2005.
