Phyllis Marie Hiller (Wittmier)
July 25, 1928 – February 25, 2024
Mom was born on the family farm in Harlington, Manitoba (Swan River Valley). She taught K – 8 in a oneroom school in Kenville, Manitoba at age 17. She met the love of her life, Alex Hiller, at a baseball game and they married in November 1947. They raised two daughters, Sharon Geier (Rick) and Judy Forbes (Ross). Her girls and grandchildren (Andrea, Tanner, Alyssa and Cameron) will always cherish her memory. Phyllis and Alex lived on a farm in Minitonas, Manitoba then moved to Winnipeg where Phyllis taught kindergarten in her home in Charleswood (a home that Alex built). She later worked as a manager in Eatons and then Sears in Saskatoon (living in another home that Alex built). They retired to White Rock, BC in 1985. Phyllis and Alex enjoyed many summers in their RV visiting Arizona and various Canadian destinations. They also enjoyed their travels to Britain, Scotland, Alaska and Hawaii. After the death of Alex in 1999, Phyllis moved into a condo in White Rock, B.C. and later into assisted living and finally complex care in Osoyoos. Phyllis enjoyed “Friday Friendship” at White Rock Baptist Church, bingo at her condo, embroidery, gardening, knitting, walks and how she just loved to dance! She always had a cheery smile and was forever looking on the bright side. She loved a good laugh and a “quick dance” around the living room. No matter who you spoke to, everyone said she was such a “sweetheart”. Phyllis was a loving, kind and generous mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mom, we miss you beyond words. You’ll forever be in our hearts.
“Go rest high on that mountain. Mom your work on earth is done. Go to Heaven a shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.” We will celebrate her wonderful life and lay her to rest with Alex, at a family service in White Rock this summer when the earth is warm and the flowers are blooming. We will talk to you like we did on Earth while you were here – you’re only as far away as a prayer.
