May 8, 1950 – November 28, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wesley Norman Schmalz, known to all as Wes, announce his passing on November 28, 2023 at the age of 73. Wes spent his career working as a Correctional Officer at the Edmonton Institution until he moved to the family farm in Shellbrook, SK in 2008 where he continued to work at the Healing Lodge in Duck Lake. Wes then retired to Oliver, BC in 2015. Wes’ passion was physical fitness. Any free time he had was spent walking, bicycling, kayaking and lifting weights. He also enjoyed hiking and fishing. He is predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Esther Schmalz and his brother Lea Schmalz of Shellbrook, SK. Wes is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Trina Brooks (Chris) of Cold Lake, AB and his son, Tyson Schmalz of Edmonton, AB; his three grandchildren, Holden, Hannah and Sam Brooks of Cold Lake, AB; his sister, Elaine Markham (John) of Calgary, AB; his nephews, Brandon Markham of Calgary, AB, Chad Schmalz of Red Earth Creek, AB and Craig Schmalz of Lloydminster, AB and his sister-in-law, Asta Schmalz of Shellbrook, SK.
