Lara Elizabeth Evans

June 8th, 1974 – November 30th, 2023

On Thursday, November 30th, 2023, Lara Elizabeth Evans passed away at the Royal Columbia Hospital, in New Westminster, BC She was born outside Dawson Creek, BC and she attended Tremblay Elementary School. Prior to graduating high school from South Peace Senior Secondary, she spent a year living and attending school as a Rotary Exchange Student in Germany. This decision was influenced by her exposure to the German/Sudeten culture of Tomslake, BC (a German settlement outside of Dawson Creek). It was evident that education was going to play a pivotal role in her life. Following her return to high school, she suffered life-altering injuries as a passenger in a motor vehicle accident. This didn’t prevent or deter her from continuing her education at UBC Vancouver. She graduated from UBC with Bachelor of Education Degree and immediately became an Instructor in English as a Second Language. Over the next 20 years she continued to flourish and grow as an educator of foreign students/teachers. Always putting their every need ahead of her own. Her last position as a learning and professional development trainer was the most fulfilling and rewarding despite the very short tenure. Lara was a student of languages/cultures always trying to learn more about those who were taking her courses. Her personal interests were an eclectic mix of music, performing arts/art, and literature. Sports/athletics played a large role in her life whether it was as a participant earlier on or as a spectator as a Lakers fan or as a photographer for UBC Intramural Sports and then later for Rugby Canada. Lara was predeceased by their baby daughter Cariad. Even though she passed too soon, Lara’s love will continue to shine down upon us. She will be deeply missed by her husband Fabio Mauricio Garcia Diaz (Port Coquitlam), their daughter Enika Seren Garcia Evans (Port Coquitlam), her uncle Bernardo (Bogota, Colombia), her parents Peter and Susan Evans (Osoyoos), her brother Bryn (Osoyoos), numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all over the world. The funeral service will be held at Canadian Memorial United Church, Vancouver on December 13th, 2023. The burial will take place after the service at (Masonic) Pacific Heritage Cemetery, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made through the GoFundMe page for Lara Elizabeth Evans that was set up by the family. https://gofund.me/c5b55500
