Nis Nissen
September 10, 1947 – November 19, 2023
On Sunday, November 19th, 2023, Nis (Nick) Nissen of Oliver passed away peacefully after a 2-year battle with cancer at the age of 76. He is predeceased by his parents Hans and Inger Nissen. Nick is survived by his wife Geraldine; four sisters Kris Matthews, Lucy Nissen, Mary Anne Winters, and Cathy Young; two brothers Lars and Peter Nissen; and many nieces and nephews. Nick received his high school education in Calgary, Alberta. Before he retired, he worked in the oil industry as a piping vessel inspector. His work took him to Venezuela and then to Fort McMurray where he retired in 2004. Nick was an avid golfer and joined a golf club wherever he lived. When he moved to Oliver, besides his golfing, he purchased a small plane which he enjoyed flying. His family remembered his interest in flying started as a boy making model airplanes. Nick volunteered on the condo strata board in the complex where he lived. This role kept him busy but most winters he spent time in Arizona. There will be no service; Nick would have wanted everyone to remember a time he worked on a project or a job with them, or a humorous conversation they shared with him. Nick always said, “If you have a choice, be happy.” In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Nick’s name to a charity of your choice.
