Charlotte Sanktjohanser
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte (Lotte) Anna Sankjohanser of Osoyoos on November 4, 2022 at the age of 91 years. She passed away peacefully at Sunnybank Retirement Centre.
Lotte was born in Swan River, Manitoba in January 1931. She was the youngest of 4 children. In 1937 she moved to Terrace, BC with her mother and brothers. Lotte moved around often during her youth having also lived in Haney, Port Alberni, and Copper Mountain before settling in Osoyoos in 1944. She worked at a bank for many years and then later joined her brother as a partner in a local Osoyoos business, Border Sash & Door.
Lotte had no children of her own, however she selflessly took in her nephew John at age 13 for which he will be eternally grateful.
Lotte was very passionate about giving back to her community and generously volunteered her time to various community organizations, particularly the Meals on Wheels programs, and the Osoyoos Red Cross medical equipment loan depot. She was the recipient of the 2010 outstanding individual volunteer award. After 27 years of volunteer services, she encountered her own health issues and had to retire.
Lotte was an avid gardener, crafter and reader. She loved traveling and went to many unique destinations. She was an animal lover and was never without a cat in her house.
Lotte was a determined soul who tenaciously believed in her independence and was so grateful for the services provided by home support and Better at Home which allowed her to stay in her home as long as possible along with the support of her neighbours and friends in the community.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunnybank Retirement Centre for their kind and compassionate care.
A private celebration of Lotte’s life will be held at a future date.
