The Osoyoos Fire Rescue team was thrilled to have a new “Fire Chief for a Day” on Nov. 23 when Osoyoos Elementary School student Addison Scott dawned the Chief’s helmet and took charge.

Chief Scott was picked up from home in a fire engine and brought to school in the morning. Osoyoos Fire Rescue firefighters then returned to the school to ensure that the Chief had lunch.

“Our team attended McDonalds where she was greeted by Mayor McKortoff and the McDonalds team,” said Deputy Fire Chief Robert Huttema. After a Happy Meal and ice cream, the team returned to the fire hall for an afternoon of briefings.

“We spent the afternoon learning about the fire trucks and taking direction from the Chief,” Huttema explained.

“We would like to thank the Osoyoos Elementary School, the Osoyoos McDonalds, Mayor McKortoff, and our professional paid-on-call volunteers for making the Chief’s day. It takes amazing people to make a community shine!” Huttema said.

The Osoyoos Fire Rescue team also thanked the Scott family. As for Chief Scott, she had one thing to say about the day: “This is the best day ever!”
