As I approach the end of my nine years at the council table, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the citizens of Oliver for the faith they placed in me to represent them.

It was an honour and a privilege to be elected as a councillor in 2013 and re-elected twice after that.

I would also like to thank the other members of council over the past nine years for their passion and thoughtfulness in governing this remarkable town.

To those no longer at the table: Water

Councillor Miller, Councillors Doerr and Bennest, and Mayor Hovanes, thank you for your service to Oliver and your friendship. And to my current council colleagues: Water Councillors Machial and Sidhu, Councillors Grice, Mattes and Veintimilla, and Mayor Johansen, I so appreciate your friendship and your commitment to our citizens. While we did not agree on every issue, we always came to the council table with the same goal, to make Oliver an even better place to live, work, raise a family and retire.

To our town staff, who probably had a good cry on some Tuesday mornings over the things we had changed on Monday night, thank you for your professionalism and support through more than a few challenging issues.

Finally, to my wife Claire, my children, grandchildren and friends in Oliver, thank you for supporting me through these past nine years and allowing me to talk your ears off for things that you were probably not that interested in hearing about.

It’s been fun.

Larry Schwartzenberger,

councillor, Town of Oliver
