I meant to write some time ago to tell you how much I appreciated your editorial of Sept. 8. Your warning that “the lines between legitimate criticism of elected officials, online harassment and direct face-to-face harassment are becoming increasingly blurred” is very much to the point.

I’m particularly concerned about social media manipulation leaving large segments of our population with distorted information that leads to “hyper-polarized tribalism,” the likes of which we have witnessed in recent ‘Freedom’ convoys and often in anti-vaccination protests.

I’d like to see formal debating taught in schools so kids learn the process of assessing information, and I’m heartened by the recent editorial of your young student Vriti Bakshi who is urging locals to get out and vote locally for candidates representing a range of viewpoints in a civil democratic process.
