Louise Marie Webb (nee Sachs)

In the peaceful hour after midnight, our lovely mother, Louise Webb, shared her final breath with this world. After a rewarding and at times challenging life of 84 ½ years, we believe she was living in simple happiness. Mom spent her last 6 ½ years at Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna. She walked and danced and held hands with all who were willing, and even in her final days, she was appreciated for her peaceful and loving manner. Thank you to everyone at Cottonwoods who shared and improved her life during this period; our family knew that even during the months that we were unable to visit in person, she was living well even as the Alzheimer’s progressed.

Louise was two years old when her family arrived in Oliver, BC, in their home-built horse-drawn trailer. Her parents, Roy and Mary Sachs, bought 10 acres of virgin land on the bench between Tuc-el-nuit Lake and Okanagan River, and the young family broke ground and built up a successful orchard. Mom’s brother, Eugene, was 11 when he died in a root cellar accident, and the 7 year-old Louise grew up in a family dealing with tragedy. Following high school graduation, Louise attended Normal School in Victoria. She began teaching at White Rock Elementary School when she was 19 years old, where she met Murray Webb. They married on July 2, 1960 and had a terrific young family life in Ocean Park/Crescent Beach, South Surrey. With their two children, Brad and Jill, the Webbs returned to the Okanagan in 1980. Louise retired from teaching in 1992 following several years in the kindergarten classroom at O’Connell Elementary. A career highlight was writing the Surrey School District Kindergarten Curriculum in 1978.

Louise had a strong faith and depended upon it for strength following the loss of several family members as a young girl and mother. She was involved in Women’s Aglow and the friendship group in Oliver, and was a talented gardener, painter, surrogate mother to her kids’ friends, and grandmother. She adored her family to the very end and positively impacted the lives of those she met.

Louise was predeceased by her husband, Murray Webb, in 2003. She is survived by son Brad, his wife Caroline and children Brook & Stephanie Webb (Emily, Madeline, Rory) and Aimee & Justin Serpa (Dominic); as well as daughter Jill, her husband Ken and children Jocelyn, Jamie & Derek Kraft, and Jessica Veitch (Luca). It is also of merit to note the many extended family members and friends who held a place in her heart. Mom will rest forever in the family plot at the Oliver Cemetery, alongside her husband, parents and brother. Thank you for your love and happy memories during this time. We had a long goodbye and rest easily knowing that she is at peace.
