Frank Ogden
February 17, 1926 – April 14, 2022
Frank Ogden passed away peacefully at the Moog and Friends Hospice House at the age of 96.
Dad will be sadly missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his sons Alan (Beverly), Ian (Wendy); granddaughters Shara (Jason), Melissa (Justin); grandsons Christopher (Kelly), Scott (Olivia), Peter (Kylie-Ann), David (Linsay), Graham, Darren (Ashley) and fifteen much loved great-grandchildren.
Frank was born in Dukinfield, Cheshire, England to parents James and Ethel, and was the middle child of five children. After leaving school at 14, he began his apprenticeship in the family bakery. In 1944 he was conscripted into the coal mines along with many others, since named “Bevin Boys”. After an injury in the mine, he returned to baking which was also an essential service. In 1947 Frank and his childhood sweetheart Alice married and had two sons. The early 60’s were times of renewal in and around Dukinfield, factories were closed, neighbourhoods were demolished to make way for newer and more modern housing, and Frank’s bakery was no longer viable. In 1965, with the consent of Alice and her sons, the family moved to Canada. Frank and Alice lived in Burnaby for almost 50 years before moving to Oliver in 2012.
Frank was a cheerful, sociable, and gentle man who was deeply in love with his wife. He was the best example of father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always ready with a smile, a story or song, or a listening ear. He loved baking all his life; family and friends sorely miss his treats.
“We loved his gentle grin .. his mischievous smile .. his wonderful accent and the stories he could tell. And his deep faithfulness through all the travails of life.”
“He was, without doubt one of the most naturally entertaining people I have ever known. I remember well his wit, his wonderful sense of mischief and his hilarious telling of the tale of Albert and the lion. Nor will I ever forget watching him ice a birthday cake many years ago. Roses appeared out of nowhere, it seemed.”
Family and friends are invited to Frank’s celebration of life to be held at Park Drive Church, 6570 Park Dr. Oliver BC. 1:30pm Saturday the 30th of April.
In lieu of flowers donations to Parkinson’s Canada are greatly appreciated.
