Edith Florence Hopkins
On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, in her 102nd year, our Mum, Edith Hopkins, left us.
What she left with us her family, and for a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, are cherished memories of her sunny, happy nature, her generosity of spirit, and her love.
She opened her heart to people, but also to animals, domestic or wild. Many are the baby birds who owe their lives to her tender, gentle hands.
Born in Chester, Nova Scotia in 1920, Edith met her pre-deceased husband David when he was sent there for ski-troop training during the war. They travelled across Canada, eventually settling in Oliver in 1945 and establishing an orchard. Edith taught Grade 1 at Oliver Primary School for over 30 years.
In retirement she was an active naturalist and spent much time participating in such projects as monitoring bluebird boxes in the backwoods.
Now she goes to David, who has been waiting so very long for this joyous reunion.
She leaves behind her daughter June. her son Peter, and three grandchildren: Alicia, Joanne, and Glynne.
Should you wish to donate in her name, may we suggest it be to your favourite charity for children in need, or for wildlife conservation.
