Earl Paul (Ted) Vince
Ted Vince passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 23, 2022 at his home in Osoyoos, BC. Ted was the sixth child in a family of seven children, born in Edmonton, AB on October 30, 1959. Ted is survived by his son David, his grandson Malachi, sisters Mary Kate Rabby (Kirby), Susan Piper (David), Patricia Otteson (Tom), Judith Martin (Leo), Tracy Cummings and brother Burkey Vince (Michelle). Ted was predeceased by his parents Earl Paul (Spud) and Verna Vince.
In February of 1980, at 20 years of age, Ted lost both his legs as a result of a work place accident. This tragedy did not stop his perseverance and determination to live a great life. During the 1980s he played wheelchair basketball and excelled at wheelchair racing, winning many awards and medals. Ted won the 1988 London Marathon men’s wheelchair race, defeating the defending champion to set a new course record. He also competed in the 1984 and 1988 Summer Paralympics, winning two bronze medals the latter year in the 400 metres and the marathon. Another great accomplishment came a few years later, Ted attended NAIT and became a Journeyman Mechanic and enjoyed his work.
Ted’s son David, the light of his life was born in April 1995. In May of 2008, Ted and David relocated from Edmonton, AB to Osoyoos, BC. The move enabled David to live closer to his mother who also resided in the Okanagan.
Ted also worked tirelessly on his home, accomplishing many renovations, on his own or with David’s assistance. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. Ted also had many friends who shared his love of a good time. Anyone who knew Ted knew he was hard working, independent, strong willed, loving and kind. Above all, he loved his family beyond measure. We will carry him in our hearts forever.
There will be no funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
