Development projects seen in Oliver are bringing a feeling of anticipation as the various projects move closer to completion.  The Times-Chronicle checked in with Shawn Goodsell, Director of Operations and Randy Houle, Director of Development Services with the Town of Oliver,  on the progress of the following projects.

Dairy Queen

Houle reports that the foundation work is complete and that “they anticipate being open for the summer”.

Station Street

Providing an overview of the progress on the Station Street project, Goodsell said: “We were running behind in 2021 but Station Street will be completed in the spring.”  He added that the road surfacing will need to be finished and all the boulevard work that includes getting trees planted, lighting, irrigation, and landscaping should be completed in the spring.

The contractor for Station Street is currently concentrating on the storm pipe upgrade and the Gallagher Lake siphon upgrade.  Goodsell said the road work should be complete in May.”

The plans and concept drawings for this development can be seen on the town’s website here.

Storm Drain Upgrade

With large drainpipe clearly stacked up for impending use, Goodsell elaborated: “The storm drain upgrade has already started by our contractor (H & M Excavating Ltd.), who are also completing Station Street.

“They are working in the Kinsmen Spray Park right now, so it can be restored before the busy part of the season. The portion of the pipe that goes across the river dike, from the park to an outfall of the river will be completed in July. “

The storm pipe portion from the park parking lot towards Station Street, on Fairview Road, will be completed in the Spring and coordinated when Station Street starts up, he said.  “People will experience some traffic control on Fairview Road, before the bridge for a short period of time.”

Affordable Housing Project

Houle reports that the affordable housing project on Airport Road is progressing well. The project, currently under construction, is still planned to be completed by the summer, he says, adding “with a significant contribution from the developer, we will be completing several road upgrades to beautify the area and improve traffic flow.”
