Christopher Richmond Brooke Yerburgh

On November 21, 2021, Christopher Yerburgh, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 85 years.

Christopher Richmond Brooke Yerburgh was born in Creston, BC, on 6 June 1936, to the Rev. Richard E.M. Yerburgh and Marjorie Gladys Yerburgh (nee Osborne-Smith). Chris will be forever remembered by his wife of 62 years, Tina (Christina; nee Yarwood); children Shelly (Kevin), and Deborah (Steven); granddaughters Rachel (Jean Paul) Hitayezu, and Heather (Ryan) Roach; and newborn great-granddaughter August D.B. Hitayezu-Gaudet. His girls were his world.

Dad had careers in both the Canadian Military (1953 – 1988) retiring as Master Warrant Officer (Special Service Medal with Alert and NATO Bars, UN Organization in Congo, Centennial Medal 1967 and Canadian Forces Decoration with Second Clasp), and the Commissionaires (1979-2019) with a Life Membership. He started as an Air Cadet with 232 Squadron, Oliver, BC in 1949, for a total of 52 years affiliated with the Canadian Military. Dad achieved his mother’s lifelong dream of becoming an officer on August 4, 1995 when he received the Queen’s Commission as Captain with 232 Squadron, serving as Commanding Officer from 1995 – 1998.

Throughout his lifetime, Dad was known as Mr. Volunteer, including positions with the Anglican Church across Canada, Katharine Robinson’s School of Highland Dance (Ottawa), Skate Canada (Ottawa North Skating Club), Oliver Crime Watch Patrol (25 years), 232 Squadron Air Cadets, and the The Royal Canadian Legion (Past Officer’s with bars, President’s with bars, Deputy Zone Commander with bars, Queen’s Golden Jubilee, Meritorious Service, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and Branch Service Medals; Palm Leaf Award and Life Membership) across Canada. Chris was recipient of the Spirit of Oliver 2019 Individual Adult Award, recognizing his many years of service to the community of Oliver, BC.

The funeral will take place at the Air Cadet Hall, Oliver, BC, on Saturday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Turner presiding, and full Legion honours.
