Bharbara Klassen

1938 -
2021

Mom passed away peacefully at the Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton after battling a long illness.

Bharbara is predeceased by her husband Horst Klassen and her sisters Erica Thiessen and Orsel Hoffmann. She is survived by her daughter Carollyne Klassen, son Steffan Klassen and sister Inge Fischer. Omi was deeply loved by her grandchildren: Emilie, Maxine, Reese and Greg.

Bharbara was born in Stralsund, Germany on July 1st, 1938 and grew up on the Insel Sylt, a place always dear to her heart. She was a nurse prior to immigrating to Canada in 1964. She took up residence in Banff, Alberta where she met and married Horst and started her family. She continued to nurse, specializing in caring for the elderly. In 1978, the family moved to Oliver, BC where she found her true calling, caring for the mentally challenged at Beaver Lodge. After 25 years, Bharbara retired but continued to pursue her passion for nursing by offering foot care to the elderly.

Mom enjoyed volunteering for the Sunnybank Women’s Auxiliary, travelling to the US on bus tours with friends and visiting family in Germany and Canada. Omi was always up for a board or card game. She loved to puzzle, read, listen to music and watch sports. Bharbara also had love for the arts. She participated in community theatre in both Banff and Oliver and sang in the German Canadian Club choir in Calgary.

She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Donations on her behalf can be made to Amnesty International, https://www.amnesty.ca/donate   which is a cause she strongly believed in.
