Kenneth George Meakes

1927 – 2021

Kenneth George Meakes, 94, a resident of Sunnybank in Oliver, went peacefully to meet his Lord on July 9,

2021. Born in Drumheller, AB to Harold and Lillian (nee Bisson) Meakes on March 11, 1927, Ken had

a nomadic life, settling finally, with his late wife, Edna, in Okanagan Falls, BC, where he spent many

years as an active member of the Okanagan Falls Community Church, until his move to Heritage

House in Oliver in 2011, McKinney Place in 2018, and finally Sunnybank in 2020.

Ken’s many careers included being a crewmember on the SS Prince Rupert along the BC Coast to Alaska; a

barber on Vancouver Island; postman in Langley, BC; a stint at Gospel Recordings in Quebec; and finally, as

an orderly at Kelowna General Hospital.  Ken had an avid interest in photography and was

often seen sporting a camera around his neck. Boxes of photos and slides attest to the many years of his

taking photos. Ken was also known for volunteering for community, his involvement in Bible studies, his

faith in his Lord and contributing extensively to the Gideons.

Wherever he went, Ken made many friends who loved his wit and sharp mind, his gentle manner, and

his tenacity and strength to overcome many hurdles. Ken was predeceased by his wife, Edna Grace (Capill),

his son, Kenneth Russell George Meakes, and his brother, Dave Meakes in Australia. He is survived by

his brother, Cecil (Pet) Meakes of Alberta, nephew, Chris (Kelsey) of Alberta, cousin, Rosemary Phillips

of Grand Forks, numerous family and cousins at a distance, and his church family.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Ken’s Life was held at Okanagan Falls Community Church

on Saturday, July 17, 2021 with Pastor Dave Kelly officiating. Ken’s ashes will be placed beside those of

Edna in the Okanagan Falls Cemetery.  To send condolences please visit www.providencefuneralhomes.com.

Peace be with you Ken.
