Ella Lora (Willie) Shaw (nee Wiltermuth)
September 24th, 1926 – June 30th, 2021
Lora passed away peacefully
at Mariposa Gardens in the
early morning of June 30th,
2021, three months shy of
her 95th birthday.
She was predeceased by
her husband, James Shaw
in 1982, and her daughter,
Susan Lynn VanPelt in
2014.
Lora is survived by her
children Debby (Preston), Rhonda (Ron), Jim (Cheryl),
Wendy (Ron), and Margot (Chris).
She had ten grandchildren: Michelle (Devin), Sandy
(Andrew), Sharon, Nicholas (Jill), Maxwell (Deanna),
Kelsey (Andy), Stephanie (Scott), Ginny, Ben, and
Courtney (Steven), as well as eight great grandchildren:
Axton, Maxime, Talon, Juliette, Vivienne, Sydney,
Hadley, and Evelyn Rose.
She is also survived by one brother, Harold (Scotty)
Wiltermuth, from Maidstone, Saskatchewan.
Lora was born in Maidstone, Saskatchewan, the
youngest of 10 children. She moved to Pentiction, BC
where she met and married James Shaw on July 28th,
1951. The family eventually settled on an orchard north
of Osoyoos in 1961.
Lora’s greatest joys in life were people, especially children.
She loved being on the farm and visiting with everyone
who stopped by. Family, friends, neighbours, relatives,
and fruit customers who returned year after year and
became friends, were all welcomed. She shared stories
with so many people over her nearly sixty years on the
farm. She hosted tea parties, cookouts, birthdays, Easter
egg hunts, and star gazing in her orchard. She organized
trips to the playground and picnics at the beach. She
attended family births, graduations, weddings, and
showers. She was the center of our family and she will
be greatly missed by her large extended family and all
those in the community whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life to share her legacy of family and
friends will take place when we are able to come together.
