As vaccination numbers are starting to climb in B.C., Interior Health is targeting rural and remote communities in the region with mobile immunization clinics.
The clinics will provide first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to eligible people who are 12+ (born in 2009 or earlier). Appointments at the clinics are not required.
The mobile clinic will make a stop in Oliver on Tuesday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Visitor Information Centre, 6431 Station Street, Oliver.
“We know that the best way to ensure that everyone who wants a vaccine is able to get one is, by removing as many barriers to access as possible,” said Interior Health president and CEO, Susan Brown.
“These two mobile clinics are heading out on a road trip that will make it easier for many people in the Interior to get their COVID-19 vaccine in their home community,” she noted.
There will currently be two mobile clinics. One will travel through the South Okanagan, Kootenay Boundary and East Kootenay, making initial stops in Big White, Peachland, Okanagan Falls, Hedley and Princeton.
The second clinic will go through the North Okanagan and Thompson Cariboo Shuswap regions, with stops in Cherryville, Lumby, the Okanagan Indian Band, Falkland and Armstrong.
According to Interior Health, the two clinics will stop at more than 40 communities.
“BCAA’s mobile response units are designed to provide on-the-ground support to British Columbians in the event of a major incident, and we are beyond thrilled to offer two units to Interior Health as mobile immunization clinics. What an incredible way to work together to get as many people vaccinated as possible,” said BCAA President and CEO Eric Hopkins.
Interior Health has also announced that established immunization clinics across the region are adding and extending hours for drop-in vaccinations.
People can drop in at their local vaccination clinic, register on the spot, and receive their vaccine. There is no need to book an appointment in advance.
