A new cat rescue in Oliver is looking to join the network of rescues in the region to help with the issue of overpopulation and care for cats.

Happy Tails Cat Rescue is a foster-based society in Oliver that recently started their group just a few weeks ago.

Kristi Baptiste, Shari Rowland and Veronica Vinge are the team behind the new operation, and have already been busy soon after their opening.

Rowland explains that their rescue is essentially just like every other rescue in the area, and that their goal is just to join the large group of people that want to help with homeless and unwanted cats.

“We’re trying to help with the feral population, we’re trying to help get cats spayed or neutered,  helping kittens not produce multiple litters,” said Rowland, among the list of services they provide for the community and help with the overpopulation issue.

All three members have been involved with rescues in the past, and have the understanding that this is an area that isn’t oversaturated with help. Rowland states that many rescues in the area often end up working together with their help and resources.

Being in the midst of kitten season, rescues across the Okanagan have tons of cats right now. Rowland said that “it seems that despite all the fabulous work that is going on in cat rescue, there is still such a need for [more].”

“It’s not any kind of competition. It’s more like complementing one another,” she said.

The cats at the rescue currently will be ready for adoption within the next few months. The team will also need folks that are willing to foster some of the cats.

“We are looking for different foster families that would be willing to open up their homes and socialize some of the cats and kittens that we are called in to assist with; to really just help them get used to being in a home,” said Rowland.

Happy Tails Cat Rescue is looking to have a headquarters set up and currently working on their website. They have a Facebook page as well.

“We look forward to helping and being a part of making a difference for our community and service,”  Rowland said.
