Kathleen (Kay) Elkink

April 16, 1923 – May 16, 2021

Kay’s family announce her passing on 16th/May/2021 at

the age of 98 years.

Mom was born April 16, 1923 in Abbey Saskatchewan to

parents Rudolph & Violet Stock.

She leaves to cherish her memory 4 children – Linda

Symonds, Clearwater, BC, Teresa Murray (Dale), Saskatoon,

SK, Judy Morneau (Erwin), Brisco, BC, and Ace Elkink

(Rose) Osoyoos, BC along with 11 grandchildren, 21

great-grand-children and 17 great-great-grandchildren,

along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom grew up in southwestern Saskatchewan. She married

Egbert Elkink in 1943. After WW 2 they raised

commercial beef at Jaffray, BC. They also ranched in the Great Sand Hills of southwestern

Saskatchewan before returning to BC in 1967 when they purchased the Richter Ranch on

Hwy #3 Cawston, BC. Mom continued in the business with her son after Dad’s farm accidental

death in 1971 until her retirement.

After many years as a widow and at the age of 80 Mom married Edgar W Facey in 2003, a

widower that lived in Osoyoos, BC. He was a wonderful man. Mom and Ed were able to

spend cherished time visiting family & friends while they lived in Osoyoos, BC until his

death in 2008.

Mom will be remembered as a self-defined woman. Besides being involved in a working

ranch she became a licensed pilot operating a single engine aircraft, played with woodworking

for her own enjoyment. She was a seamstress, a quilter, enjoyed many crafts, and

she learned to paint with oils and watercolor in her mid 70’s. She along with one of her

paintings was featured in the BC Cattleman’s Magazine.

She traveled extensively internationally. She enjoyed dancing and functions at the Royal

Canadian Legion in Osoyoos. She was favored with good eyesight that enabled her to

spend hours reading, doing Word Jumble, Sudoku, Find-a-Word booklets, jig-saw puzzles

and bingo.

She was a quiet woman with a quick sense of humor. She rarely spoke of herself and never

spoke unkindly of others.

Her husband Egbert Elkink predeceased her, son-in-law Norm Symonds, her second husband

Edgar Facey, her parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers plus a generation of in-laws.

Special thanks to the staff at Mariposa Gardens Care Center for the care of our Mom over

the last 11 years. Thank you to Dr. Garnett Tarr for his watchful care.

The family will have a private memorial at a later date.
