Starting July 5, a new face will join the Town of Oliver’s administrative team.
Ed Chow has been hired as the new chief administrative officer, taking over for Cathy Cowan who is retiring.
“One of council’s highest priorities is to select a qualified CAO for our community, said Mayor Martin Johansen. “After a rigorous interview process it was clear Ed has the knowledge, experience and leadership skills to achieve council’s strategic priorities and continue to advance the Town of Oliver forward.”
Chow will be coming from Alberta where he has held two CAO roles over the last 10 years. Prior to that, he began his local government career with the City of Nelson. The Town of Oliver says Chow’s experience in both the private and public sector has given him a well rounded background with skill sets that are ideally suited to the municipality.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join a dedicated team of council and staff at the Town of Oliver,” Chow said. “As Canada’s Wine Capital, Oliver is rich in heritage, culture, and a quality of life that is second to none.”
Chow has also spent time furthering his education and holds a Masters in Public Administration and the National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration.
“His professional designations as a CPHR, AICP and most recently AMP demonstrates his passion for learning and his dedication to local government business,” the Town says.
Cathy Cowan retires June 30 and has served the Town for 10 years in her 30 years in local government. Her desire now is to travel, spend more time with family, and do some volunteering.
