An Oliver businessman is commending the RCMP for getting his stolen trailer back and apprehending the alleged thieves.

Dennis Munckhof from Munckhof Manufacturing said he was surprised to see the trailer again after two men stole it from his compound on Dec. 28.

He filed an insurance claim and was just about to get a new trailer when the stolen one was returned. And even better, the culprits were apprehended, he pointed out.

Munckhof posted a video of the theft, which shows someone using a hand tool to cut off a gate lock. A black pickup truck is then seen entering the compound, hooking up to the trailer and driving off.

“They (the thieves) don’t seem to mind being on camera anymore,” Munckhof said.

While these lawbreakers are becoming more brazen, their luck runs out at some point.

Subsequently, Kelowna RCMP apprehended two men who allegedly broke into a business compound to steal heavy equipment using a stolen truck and Munckhof’s trailer.

Munckhof said not only did the RCMP give him back the ability to continue providing service, they “took the tools of the trade from the bad guys.”

Oliver RCMP Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth said local detachment members were in constant contact with investigators from other areas continually investigating these travelling criminals.

The RCMP identified Michael Paul Grant from Peachland as one individual charged with break, enter and theft.

Munckhof said he sincerely hopes the court system “puts these guys out of commission” for a while.
